Dr. Kim, as she is known by her students, has been a language educator and teacher trainer for over 30 years, living and working over half her life overseas. She and her family lived one year in Hong Kong, four years in Malaysia (where her second son was born), one year in Indonesia while on a Fulbright Senior Fellowship, and now 14 years in Macau. She has also lived and worked for shorter periods as a consultant in Austria and Japan. Kim was a tenured professor at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale for a decade in the 1990’s and has been employed as an Associate Professor in the Department of English at the University of Macau since January of 2002.
Although she has conducted and published academic research for many years, Kim only recently decided to work on two books for the general public. She started The Journey Within (2014) and Journeys Beyond (2015) as someone new to meditation who wanted to learn more and to share what she had learned. Stress release, peace of mind, and lower blood pressure are but a few of the benefits she has noted personally. She was curious to learn if others had similar experiences. Seemingly, although a meditation “practice,” this approach was becoming for her a “lifestyle,” which was unexpected.
In her leisure time, Kim enjoys spending quiet time with her husband of over 30 years and their two sons, both in their mid-20’s. She enjoys travel, cooking, reading and learning languages. Increasingly, more and more of her personal time is oriented toward meditation on the heart. She is hoping to pursue more publication projects and offers guided meditation to those interested.
