Ziyang (Mon) Chen

Ziyang (Mon) Chen is an illustrator, animator and a film maker currently based in Beijing and Macau. After accomplishing her Bachelor degree at Parsons the New School for Design in illustration, Master degree at London College of Communication in animation, she is now pursuing Doctor of Philosophy in film management at Macau University of Science and Technology.

Her works disclose an instant and instinctive emotional critique via lens of surrealism and dark romanticism. She investigates in the relationship between nostalgic visual rhetorical device and macabre theme. She discusses the entity of humans with synecdoche. With her literature background, she aims to find subtle paradox within a symbolic fable narration.

She has published collection of novels, poems, and illustrations. Her animated works has won best animation in Dreamers of Dream, Varese International Film Festival, Chongqing Youth Film Festival; nominated in Barnes Film Festival, Venice Short Film Festival, FIRST International Film Festival, International Cosmopolitan Film Festival of Tokyo, Kosice Film Festival, Asia Pacific Queer Short Film, etc. Her animated works has been used as music videos, charity video and documentary film. Her illustrated works has been exhibited in Hoxton Gallery, used as album covers, film concept posters and merchandised products.
