Photography plays a key role in the documentation of reality with minimal bias, yet the aesthetics of an image are significantly shaped by various photographers’ perspectives and angles. From the intricate details of its architecture to the vibrant tapestry of daily interactions of people, images could embody both the nostalgia of familiarity and the excitement of discovery within the city. In António Leong’s exhibition, each photograph acts as a portal, capturing fleeting and stagnant moments that resonate with the essence of Macau. These images bring back memories of past incidents, encounters, and personal narratives in which Macau serves as a backdrop. The images foster dialogue not only among the exhibits but also with the audience.
Déjà vu is interpreted as having a sense of phenomenon as if we are encountering something we have witnessed before, they are uninterruptedly evoked in this exhibition through the shutter clicks of the photographer’s camera lens.
“Each photograph in this collection has captivated my attention for extended periods, inspiring a profound sense of wonder and calm. I am delighted to share the solace they have provided, but I genuinely hope you can also experience their grandeur. The lines, shapes, and silhouettes employed aim to convey the otherworldly nature of these subjects within the context of our contemporary world.” – António Leong
